Pine Country Quilts offers Quilting 1 which is a three week comprehensive course on basic quiltmaking skills. In this course, we will make a lap sized Split Rail quilt. All levels of skill are welcome from the very beginner to those of you who just need to brush up on basic skills.
FAQ's:
Do I need a sewing machine for this class? Yes, you will need to bring a sewing machine to each session in order to complete this quilt. A basic sewing machine with a straight stitch which is in good working order is necessary. We have a rental available to you if needed.
What if I want to make a different size quilt? The size of the quilt we make was carefully chosen so that it is usable as a throw. Further, this size gives you the confidence to finish and go on to bigger and better things. Finally, this size allows you to keep up with the class. We ask that you stay within the size range of this quilt. You can always make a larger quilt for your next project.
I'm afraid I will have trouble with fabric selection? Will I have help in choosing fabric? Yes, in fact, we need to meet with you before your first session in order to organize your fabric selections so that when class starts you are ready to begin. Any time before the date of your first class, we need you to come in and select your fabrics. Any of our staff will be able to help you. Please allow 30 to 60 minutes for this process.
What can I expect to spend? The class fee for all three sessions is $50.00. The amount that you spend beyond that is variable depending on what fabrics and supplies you choose. We do offer a 15% discount on supplies for your quilting class. We also try to space out your purchases during a three week period so that your up front costs are reduced. Like any hobby, there are supplies to invest in before you begin. By picking out quality products at the beginning, these tools will last you a long time.
When and how long are your classes? Pine Country Quilts offers Quilting 1 courses nearly every month except July and December. These courses normally take place on three consecutive Fridays or Saturdays for two hours each, however, other class times during the week may be available. We will also need to meet with you prior to the class date for fabric selection and after classes are over we will meet again on a one-on-one basis for additional finishing instructions.
